Ricarda Louk, the mother of the kidnapped Shani Louk, is hoping for a sign of life from her daughter. She feels left “totally in the dark” by the authorities.
Tel Aviv – Shani Louk has been missing for over a week now. She was allegedly kidnapped from a music festival in the Gaza Strip by Hamas terrorists. Her mother, Ricarda Louk, expects more commitment from the federal government for the hostages. “We hope that more will be done now,” said Ricarda Louk after a meeting with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) in Israel.
Shani Louk missed: Baerbock “listened to the stories and was very affected”
“It was very good that she was here in our country,” Louk told the German Press Agency (dpa) on Saturday (October 14). Baerbock met with the families of the hostages on Friday. “She listened to the stories and was very affected,” Louk continued.
It was very important to the families to emphasize “that we don’t have time”. Among those presumably abducted were small children and elderly people who needed medical care. Shani Louk may also be in critical condition. “My daughter has a head injury and time is of the essence,” said Louk. But she assumes that she is still alive and in the Gaza Strip.
Israel war: Shani Louk is said to be seriously injured in the Gaza Strip
At least one “familiar person in the Gaza Strip” confirmed this. However, she could not say who the person was because: “Everyone there is in danger,” said Louk. Although the family shares all information with the German and Israeli authorities, they receive nothing in return, says Ricarda Louk: “We are so completely in the dark and that is the most difficult thing.”
The family has now joined forces with other affected people. “It’s not just Shani, there are many more families affected and terrible fates,” said Louk. “The minister also sees that it is real. These are not stories, these are real fates and people and children and grandmothers who were kidnapped.
Shani Louk’s aunt’s partner criticizes meeting with Baerbock as a “political show”
In addition to Shani Louk’s mother, Wilfried Gehr, the partner of Shani’s aunt Orly Louk, also criticizes the lack of results so far. Although he confirmed that the federal government had assured its support, the conversation with Baerbock was just a “political show” – the families in it were merely “extras”.
After crisis talks, Baerbock urged Hamas to release all hostages kidnapped from Israel. The federal government is aware of eight cases of German nationals among those kidnapped. Most of them have dual citizenship, the politician said on Saturday after a meeting with her Egyptian counterpart Samih Schukri in the capital Cairo. All channels are being used “to obtain information about whose hands the hostages are and to do everything possible to ensure that these innocent people are released,” added the Federal Foreign Minister.
