Monsignor Zanchetta sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for sexual abuse of seminarians
The former bishop of Oran, Argentina, Gustavo Zanchetta, near the Vatican, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for aggravated sexual abuse of two former seminarians. This was reported by the Argentine state agency Telàm.
The sentence accepts the requests of the prosecution, advanced yesterday, with arguments based on the psychological and psychiatric reports made to the former bishop. During the process Zanchetta testified and denied all charges against him, while the two victims reiterated their accusations. Zanchetta had resigned as bishop of the diocese of Oran on 31 July 2017, due to health problems, he left Argentina and settled in Spain, where he was appointed advisor by the Pope of the body for the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See, which manages the assets of the Roman Curia.
