Severe storms are forecast for several regions in Italy, warns the country’s civil defense. Evacuations could also be necessary.
Bologna – Italy is preparing for severe storms in the coming days. The local civil defense issued the highest warning level for parts of Emilia-Romagna. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the popular holiday region on Thursday evening and Friday (October 4th). For this reason, there is concern that rivers and streams could overflow their banks, leading to floods and landslides.

Other regions on the Adriatic coast are also affected by the current storm situation in Italy. For example, in Veneto and Apulia in the south of the country there is an increased warning level. Heavy rain is also expected in Tuscany, Marche and Lazio, which includes the capital Rome. These weather conditions could cause further disruption and the Italian population is therefore advised to exercise caution.
It’s already mid-September Italy was hit by heavy rainfall and flooding. A firefighter lost his life during a rescue operation. Thousands of people were evacuated. In 2023, 17 people died in the Emilia-Romagna holiday region due to severe storms.
