From the City Council they emphasize that it will be a “simple and dignified” act and in no case a concert
Last year Joan Manuel Serrat announced his retirement from the stage just when the 50th anniversary of the release of his tribute album to Miguel Hernández, the same one that put Orihuela back on the national musical map. Well, if last December the plenary session of the City Council unanimously decided to name him Adoptive Son of the city, as requested by a group of residents, the Catalan artist has not only willingly accepted the distinction, but he will be in Orihuela next Friday, February 17 at the Teatro Circo at 8:00 p.m.
This was announced by the mayoress, Carolina Gracia, in the company of the deputy mayor, José Aix, and the Councilor for Festivities, Antonio Sánchez. The three remarked, yes, that the act, although it will be “open to the public”, will be “simple and dignified”, with “music to entertain”, but in no case is it expected to become a concert by express wish of the interpreter and their representatives. “All the details have been agreed with the artist.”
The free invitations will be made available to those interested soon at the Teatro Circo box office and only two can be purchased by ID, the councilor for festivities warned, he explained, in order to control the available capacity and avoid “possible altercations” that tarnish the appointment “It will be an act very similar to those that we have already done with other Favorite Sons of the city such as that of Rocío Caparrós,” councilor Sánchez recounted. And those who cannot purchase an invitation will be able to follow the ceremony on streaming.
The order, then, of the institutional act will consist of a few words from the councilor for festivities in which he will give an account of the agreement adopted in plenary and, later, Serrat himself will have a few words of thanks. The rest of the Municipal Corporation and representatives of the neighborhood group behind this appointment will be present very close. “Practically everything we have asked for, he has agreed to accept,” the councilor thanked the artist.
“We had to recognize the undoubted contribution that Serrat has had with our most universal poet and the dissemination and knowledge of our city,” said the councilor from Oriolan.
