Sinaloa lost a great academic who trained many generations of political scientists, a man of integrity and an honorable politician, but above all an extraordinary human being. Yesterday Sergio Jacobo Gutiérrez passed away, the best public policy teacher the state has ever had.
The political and academic class of the state is in mourning, an exemplary Sinaloan died, he never showed off his extensive curriculum, his cover sheet was always as a professor of Political Theory at the Faculty of International Studies and Public Policy of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. He thus left it patented in his books.
In fact, his books leave his legacy engraved, among which we have had the opportunity to read are: Theory of politics: old problems, new approaches; comparative politics; and The Legislative Power of Sinaloa. By the way, he always honored me with a generous comment of motivation and recognition for the work in journalism and political analysis. Forever grateful.
The first time I interviewed Quirino Ordaz Coppel exclusively as governor, I made a prelude with his private secretary, Sergio Jacobo Gutiérrez, on that occasion the current governor and at that time coordinator of advisers, Rubén Rocha Moya, was also there. We had an interesting talk about the political landscape and the start of the administration. We were in the so-called “scolding” room on the Third Floor.
Sergio Jacobo Gutiérrez was very strict with the protocols as private secretary, he did not neglect any detail, surely for that reason he won the opportunity to be a deputy and coordinate the PRI caucus in the State Congress, where he was the main political operator of the former governor Quirino Ordaz.
Sergio Jacobo Gutiérrez’s passage through the Sinaloa Congress was in one of the most difficult stages of the PRI, for the first time they were not a majority and he always sailed against the current. At the start he had a Morena steamroller in front of him with an absolute majority, but at the end of the legislature the coordinator of the PRI caucus turned the tables and snatched the majority from him, which was confirmed in each key vote.
Definitively, Sergio Jacobo’s highest distinction in politics was coordinating the PRI bench in the State Congress, but surely one of the tasks he enjoyed the most was being president of the Colosio Foundation in Sinaloa, it was a position made as a tailored suit.
Very sad news was the departure of Sergio Jacobo Gutiérrez, he will always be remembered for being a great man, politician and father of a family, at several meals he boasted to his children who were studying in Mexico City. His wife was always at the foot of the canyon. We send you our most sincere condolences and a big brotherly hug. Rest in peace, respected teacher.
Schedule. Governor Rubén Rocha Moya will lead the commemoration of Flag Day. The event will be at 8:00 in the morning at the Monumental Flag Pole in the Tres Ríos sector. There will be the political epicenter of the state.
By the way, today is the birthday of former Governor Jesús Aguilar Padilla, we send him a big hug and much encouragement. We know that the best celebration for him is to be accompanied by his family.
Political Memory. “If I help one person to have hope, I will not have lived in vain”: Martin Luther King.
