Vanderlan Cardoso (PSD), Eduardo Girão (Novo) and Carlos Viana (Podemos) performed poorly and did not go to the 2nd round
The 3 senators who tried to seek a position as mayor were defeated this Sunday (Oct 6, 2024). Vanderlan Cardoso (PSD-GO), Carlos Viana (Podemos-MG) and Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) performed poorly and were far from going to the 2nd round.
Vanderlan Cardoso he had the best position among the 3 congressmen: he came in 4th place in Goiânia (GO), with 6.57% of valid votes (attributed to a name, excluding blanks and null votes). It was surpassed by Fred Rodrigues (PL) and Sandro Mabel (União Brasil), who went to the next round.
Vanderlan is president of CAE (Economic Affairs Committee), one of the most important in the Senate and was mayor of Senador Canedo (GO) for 2 terms, from 2005 to 2010.
CARLOS VIANA
Carlos Viana resigned from his seat in the Senate in July to focus on the electoral campaign in Belo Horizonte (MG). He received 12,712 votes and came in 7th place, with just 1% of the votes. He was left out of the 2nd round, which will have Bruno Engler (PL) and Fuad Noman (PSD).
Before entering politics, Viana had a career as a journalist in Minas Gerais. In 2020, he tried to become governor of the state, with the support of the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), but had 7% of the valid votes and it lost to Romeo Zema (New).
EDUARDO GIRÃO
Eduardo Girãowhich gained prominence during the Bolsonaro government, invested R$300 thousand from his own pocket to boost his campaign in Fortaleza (CE).
It was insufficient: it received 12,712 votes, which represents 1.06%. He finished in 5th place, far from André Fernandes (PL) and Evandro Leitão (PT), which remain in the dispute.
RODRIGO CUNHA IS ELECTED DEPUTY IN MACEIÓ
If none of the senators running as head of the ticket was elected, the senator Rodrigo Cunha (Podemos-AL) won the vice position of João Henrique Caldas (PL), known as JHC, in Maceió (AL).
JHC was re-elected in the 1st round with 83.25% of valid votes.
