The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) has initiated an investigation to determine the causes behind the death of primatesspecifically howler monkeys, in the states of Tabasco and Chiapas.
Semarnat reported that the possible reasons that could have caused this worrying situation are being analyzed, and efforts are being coordinated between federal, state and municipal authorities, as well as academic institutions and zoological centers in the region.
The agency pointed out that since the first deaths of howler monkeys were reported last weekend, Semarnat, in collaboration with the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) and the National Service of Health, Safety and Agri-Food Quality (Senasica) , has been awaiting the results of the initial analyzes to identify the causes of the death of these wildlife specimens.

Semarnat indicated that it has been reporting promptly on the actions that are being carried out and will continue to provide updates through official government platforms.
To avoid incorrect manipulations and guarantee adequate medical care, Semarnat recommends that the population immediately report any sighting of wildlife specimens that require medical evaluation and attention.
