During the’Italian Tech Week, an event dedicated to the latest generation technologies, many topics were dealt with during the event. Being Italy synonymous with Ferrari, one could not be missing space dedicated to the Red of Maranello, space in which John Elkann highlighted the future of the most famous brand in the world and what may be the possibility of having one Self-driving Ferrari.
Self-driving Ferrari? An unlikely scenario …
Think of one Fully electric Ferrari already makes the purists of Maranello, let’s imagine what could arise in the minds of fans attending the presentation of one Ferrari a autonomous driving.
But are technology, innovation and development necessarily characteristics that must go hand in hand with the construction of a Ferrari? Absolutely yes, but with due reservations. The design of a Ferrari is not a trivial matter. In addition to safeguarding the name of the brand born in 1947, it is also necessary to safeguard what it is the essence of the same.
Ergo, sitting in a Ferrari and not being able to have the privilege of driving it is a very banal and ridiculous thing and, precisely for this reason, a construction plan for a self-driving Ferrari is an unthinkable scenario (unlike an electric Ferrari) according to President John Elkann.
John Elkan’s opinion on self-driving Ferrari
Ferrari president John Elkann was questioned on the topic of self-driving cars and on the possibility of seeing this technology applied to a Ferrari. After the construction of a hybrid car and an already confirmed SUV, in contrast with the Ferrari philosophy known for its powerful V12, many expected a positive response from the heir Agnelli, but his response was exemplary:
“A self-driving Ferrari would be sad, because the spirit of Ferrari is precisely that of a car that can be driven. In a world where automation will colonize much of our life and mobility, I believe the value of human guidance will increase. When we had horses and carriages there were stallions and horse racing. Horses and carriages have disappeared, but horse racing continues to exist and is highly regarded. Ferrari is already well positioned and should continue to be what it is ”.
John Elkann, Ferrari executive president
