The Consistory will not attend the Community Call today as a protest for having assumed the buses to districts without funding
Murcia City Council will stand today to the Ministry of Public Works in relation to the meeting that the latter has convened with different municipalities around the capital to offer them their accession to the future Metropolitan Area. In addition to the mayor of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano, municipal representatives from Alcantarilla, Alguazas, Archena, Beniel, Ceutí, Las Torres de Cotillas, Lorquí, Molina de Segura and Santomera have been summoned to the meeting. “We will not attend that paripé, when this year we have assumed the powers of public transport to districts without any financing, which represents an extra outlay for the municipal coffers of 8 million,” defended yesterday the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility of the Consistory of Murcia, Carmen Fruitful.
«It is a new chapter within the notion to which we are subjected; they want to stage a pantomime with an empty photo, but we have grown tired of the ‘I invite, but you pay’ of the Autonomous Community”, added the mayor of Economic Management, Enrique Lorca, in the same line, influencing, once again, in “The 40 million improper powers assumed each year by the City of Murcia.” Both stressed that the only external financing to face these powers comes from the Government of Spain, the same that the Ministry of Development received and that the Municipal Administration will now enter, reducing by 4 million the aforementioned costs of the service that the Consistory has gone on to assume.
The Murcia City Council has, however, adhered to the collaboration protocol that will allow services to be coordinated
However, despite this gesture of protest, Fructuoso acknowledges that La Glorieta has adhered “out of commitment and responsibility” to the protocol signed with the Community to offer shared services on several lines of regional and municipal concessions, thus increasing coverage and frequencies. offered to citizens, especially those residents of neighborhoods and districts where buses from neighboring municipalities no longer stopped. In fact, the constitution of the Metropolitan Area has been a long-demanded action by residents and administrations to coordinate and improve existing services, so the protest of the Murcia Town Hall seems to focus on the economic issue.
The Ministry asks to “park sterile controversies for the benefit of citizens” and defends that it only complies with the law
Given this situation, the regional government has indicated that it will continue to work for the constitution of this area, “convinced of the benefits of its creation” and with the intention of “joining efforts to improve public services.” “Citizens ask us to work together to this end and this type of sterile controversy does not lead anywhere,” added regional sources, while crossing out the controversy over financing as “artificial”. “Each administration is responsible for paying for the services it provides by virtue of its powers and, since 2021, it legally corresponds to the City Council,” they concluded from the Community, while pointing out that they respect the decision of the Consistory of Murcia not to go to the date.
