Security policy Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov accuses US of propaganda, Ukrainian president sees offensive warnings fuel panic in country

Lavrov made the charges in a conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. Later today, the presidents of the countries are also expected to talk over the phone.

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and the United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed the situation in Ukraine by telephone on Saturday. The call was reported by news agencies Reuters and AFP, for example.

Later on Saturday also the presidents of the United States and Russia Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin is expected to discuss the matter over the phone.

The call took place the day after the U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan warned that Russia could attack Ukraine at any time. The United States has sent more troops to Poland due to the escalating situation and ordered some of the personnel of its Ukrainian delegation to leave the country.

Several countries, including Finland, have urged their citizens to leave Ukraine. However, EU delegations have been told, at least, to continue their work as normal.

Reuters and, according to AFP, in a conversation with Blinken, Lavrov described U.S. warnings of a Russian invasion of Ukraine as propaganda.

“The propaganda campaign launched by the United States and its allies over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is aimed at provocation,” Lavrov said in a statement, according to AFP. The information is based on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s announcement of the call.

According to Reuters, Lavrov also said that both the US and EU administrations have ignored Russia’s most important security requirements.

According to AFP, U.S. Secretary of State Blinken made it clear in the call that “the diplomatic route to avoid conflict is still open, but calls for mitigating action by the Russian administration and participation in sincere negotiations.”

The information is based on a U.S. State Department spokesman who spoke about Blinken’s contribution Ned Pricen opinion.

Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky warnings of a Russian attack are fueling panic. According to him, at the moment the worst enemy of the Ukrainians is panic.

The president also demanded that if anyone has firm evidence that Russia is attacking Ukraine, that evidence should be shown to Ukraine.

Zelenskyi commented on the escalating situation for reporters on Saturday.
