Technology giant Google will buy security firm Mandiant for $ 5.4 billion, according to Reuters.

The deal strengthens Google’s cloud services business, which generates $ 19 billion annually, and supports its security and advisory services, the company said Tuesday.

According to Reuters, rivals Microsoft and Amazon are also working to strengthen the security capabilities of their growing cloud units.

Microsoft had also said it was considering buying Mandiant.

Google’s takeover bid, $ 23 per share, represents a premium of approximately 53 percent compared to Mandiant’s share price level prior to the announcement of Microsoft’s acquisition efforts.

Mandiant specializes in cyber disaster response and cybersecurity testing.

It became an independent company last year when Fire Eye, which acquired Mandiant in 2013, sold its product business and Fire Eye for $ 1.2 billion to a consortium led by private equity firm Symphony.
