Francisco Martín’s active role in the daily political brawl of Madrid has the applause and encouragement of Ferraz and La Moncloa, where he worked under the orders of Félix Bolaños before landing on Miguel Ángel Street in Madrid. But not everyone in the Madrid socialist party is satisfied with the co-protagonist role of the Government delegate. Despite the closing of ranks that has occurred around Óscar López, at least at the beginning of his time as general secretary, Francisco Martín’s political adventures continue to arouse internal misgivings in some sectors of the party.
“The Government delegate reacts to the lack of cordiality, respect, rapprochement and collaboration that President Ayuso shows with President Sánchez,” sources from the Madrid PSOE agree. In the Assembly, from the Parliamentary Group, they justify Martín’s attitude in his constant opposition to the regional president: «The Government of Spain invests a lot in Madrid and Ayuso tries to convince otherwise. Not only that, but it also declares itself openly insubordinate to the laws approved in Congress.
But in the PSOE of Madrid it is also noted that the Government delegate “exceeds” his role. In his opinion, it should be much clearer what the specific role of each political leader should be. “We should seriously rethink the role of each political and institutional leader,” Madrid socialist sources emphasize. “Of course, that of the Government delegate, who on some occasions, defending the Government of Spain, exceeds his scope of action,” point out these sources, who do not forget the criticism of the regional president. The representative of the Sánchez Government in Madrid usually acts as a counterpoint to Ayuso in public or institutional events featuring the regional president. The ‘clamp’ of the Government and the PSOE against Ayuso works on a day-to-day basis. The Socialist Group in the Assembly opens an offensive against Ayuso herself, her partner and her chief of staff with a battery of initiatives, at the same time that the PSOE demands the resignation of the president and her right hand, and immediately afterwards the delegate criticizes that the president “escapes” to Peru on an institutional trip and demands explanations. Martín exercises opposition against Ayuso, but also against Mayor Almeida. He blames both of them for a large part of the security problems that may exist in certain neighborhoods, something that in principle would be their responsibility, for not resolving the “social emergencies” of the neighbors.
With the regional congress of the Madrid PSOE very close, next weekend, in the socialist ranks some sources assume that Óscar López will make room in his executive for the Government delegate, a “deserved” position, they point out, due to his political role since he arrived at the Delegation and that would reinforce his authority internally. In any case, a total closure of ranks is expected in that congress with the decisions made by López, endorsed by Ferraz.
