Host families or other households that receive Ukrainian refugees do not receive an expense allowance for this. State Secretary Eric van der Burg (Asylum) said in the question time in the House of Representatives on Tuesday that the cabinet is working on this, but this is ‘not the proposal that is now being worked out’, he writes in a clarifying letter to the House.
Because tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees are expected, many families have signed up to receive people. Van der Burg first called it ‘logical’ to various media that there is compensation for this. The cabinet is now working on a different proposal, it now appears. ‘The Ukrainian taken in will receive an amount, whereby he or she can make agreements with the host family about contributing to the costs of the household’.
The minister also emphasizes that the picture is still shifting, and that a cabinet plan has not yet been set in stone. ‘Many situations that are now occurring are uncharted territory’, says Van der Burg. ‘It is precisely then that agreements about technical implementation are closely monitored.’
