Jacob sent a letter to the National Archives on January 18th notifying the documents of their existence, then in a separate letter on January 22nd notifying the archives that FBI agents had come to Pence’s home to take them..
This disclosure places Pence with former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden, who secret documents were found in their homes.
In the Jan. 18 letter to the National Archives, Jacob said Pence “out of an abundance of caution” engaged outside counsel to review records stored at his home following reports of items found at Biden’s home..
“The attorney identified a few documents that potentially contained sensitive or confidential information scattered throughout the records,” Jacob wrote in the letter.“.
“Vice President Pence immediately secured these documents in a locked safe pending further guidance on proper handling from the National Archives,” he said. The letter added that Pence’s advisor did not review the contents of the documents once it was established that they were classified as confidential.
In the letter, dated January 22, Jacob said the DOJ “exceeded standards of procedure and requested immediate possession” of the documents at Pence’s residence..
Jacob said that with the former vice president’s approval, FBI agents came to his home in Indiana on the evening of January 19 to collect documents from the safe..
