“Well, I’m trying to buy back my sidepod,” says Sebastian Vettel at the Autosport Awards gala. During the gala there was an auction to raise money for charity. Several F1-related articles went under the hammer. So is a sidepod of Vettel’s F1 car. As the four-time champion takes the podium, he is eager to find out if he won the auction.
The charity of the evening was Grand Prix Trust. They are committed in all kinds of ways to the staff of F1 teams and other stakeholders in F1. To raise money, F1 teams offered various auction items. You could win a tour of the Red Bull Racing factory, but also Nicholas Latifi’s racing suit and a lunch with Mark Webber.

Old parts were also sold for charity. Red Bull offered a carbon ceramic brake disc for 2,600 pounds (3,019 euros). Aston Martin auctioned off a part that Vettel was eager to own: the sidepod of his Aston Martin AMR21. The part dates from 2021, but it is not clear during which race(s) Vettel drove it exactly.
The retired German offered 2,555 pounds (about 3,000 euros), but was no longer able to bid when the auction closed. He was on stage to receive an award for his achievements throughout his career. Fortunately for Vettel, he was not outbid and goes home with the sidepod. He previously received a piece of the rear wing from one of his Red Bull F1 cars. Gather a little further and he can build an F1 car himself.
