US to help search for bodies of two sailors who lost their lives in the crash of a helicopter while chasing drug traffickers in Port Chiapas.
“Regarding the situation where we lost two naval elements there in Port Chiapas (…) where we were chasing some boats that were smuggling cocaine, we lost the helicopter, Two elements sank with the helicopter“, declared the Secretary of the Navy, Admiral José Rafael Ojeda Durán.
The official assured that the Navy (Semar) asked the United States Navy for help in locating the bodies of the officers and the helicopter, this was announced during the morning press conference ‘La Mañanera’ today Friday, August 2.
Ojeda Duran confirmed that Search operation to begin in mid-September in joint work with the United States Navy.
To this end, work will also be done with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to allow the passage of U.S. ships into Mexican territory.
The helicopter crash occurred approximately 120 miles from Port Chiapasformerly known as San Benito.
For his part, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that the rescue of the bodies of the sailors will be carried out in response to the request of the mother of one of the officers.
“This is for the relatives who approached us in Manzanillo, the mother of one of the sailors who lost his life in this accident and who asked us to do everything to rescue them and return the bodies.”
