Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has presented a defamation suit for $50 million against Courtney Burgess, her attorney Ariel Mitchell and Nextstar Media Group, the parent company of the NewsNation television network. The complaint, filed this January 22, maintains that the accused carried out false accusations deliberately to obtain economic benefits.
According to court documents, the claims in question include the existence of alleged videos that would show the rapper participating in sexual assaults to celebrities and minors. According to the lawsuit, these allegations were disclosed by Burgess and Mitchel to various media outlets, including NewsNation. Additionally, Combs alleges that the network aired the testimony without carrying out an investigation nor consult with his lawyers, which, according to the singer’s legal team, has caused great damage to the artist’s finances and reputation, in addition to affecting his right to a fair trial.
The Burgess accusations
The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York, details that Burgess claimed that he received from Kim PorterCombs’ ex-partner and mother of four of his children, a copy of his memoirs before dyingalong with compromising videos. Father Diddy’s lawyers insist that he and Burgess have never met and that the claims are false. Furthermore, Erika Wolff, the rapper’s lawyer, told ‘People’ that these memoirs are “false, offensive and a shameless attempt to profit from the tragedy.” Meanwhile, the four children in common between the singer and Porter have also denied what Burgess said.
For her part, Ariel Mitchell, who is also named in the lawsuit, allegedly filed multiple legal accusations against Combs, including allegations of sex trafficking. Although the lawyer has not formalized these demands, according to court documents, spoke widely about them in the media. In a NewsNation segment aired in September, Mitchell claimed that there were sexual recordings of Sean ‘Diddy’ circulating in Hollywood.

Both parties speak out
Speaking to ‘People’, Puff Daddy’s lawyer, Erika Wolff, highlighted that: “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs takes a stand against malicious falsehoods that have been invented and amplified by individuals seeking to profit at his expense. These defendants have deliberately invented and spread scandalous lies with reckless disregard for the truth,” he began, adding that, “their falsehoods have poisoned public perception and contaminated the jury pool. “This lawsuit should serve as a warning that these types of intentional falsehoods, which undermine Mr. Combs’ right to a fair trial, will no longer be tolerated.”
Meanwhile, Courtney Burgess’s defense declared to the same media that “this is simply a pathetic ruse to silence the victims and the people who defend them. In addition, he assured that the defendant “has time to sue, but refuses to accept notification of the lawsuits that have already been filed against him.”
The Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs case
Currently, the 55-year-old mogul is detained at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking, criminal conspiracy and transportation for prostitution. For his part, the rapper has denied all accusations on more than one occasion.
With this lawsuit against Burgess, Mitchell and NewsNation, P. Diddy seeks a jury trial and financial compensation for damages caused, which will not be less than $50 million. The case remains in development as both parties prepare to defend their positions in court. Meanwhile, the television network has not wanted to comment on the matter so far.
