Steven Seagal visited captured Azov fighters in a colony in Yelenovka near Donetsk
American actor and director Steven Seagal, who holds the post of special representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry for humanitarian relations between the Russian Federation and the United States, visited captured soldiers of the Azov battalion (the organization is recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia) in the village of Elenovka, Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).
Video recording of the meeting published “News.” It shows how Seagal, holding on to a high fence, communicates with Ukrainian military personnel. First, the fighters were asked if they knew who was in front of them. They responded positively and spoke about the conditions of detention in the colony.
They treat us well, quite well. Nothing to complain about. I believe the terms are acceptable
Next, the actor asked one of the Azov residents if he wanted to return home. “I dream about it,” the soldier replied.
Seagal is preparing a documentary about the special operation
In May 2023, Seagal said that he was preparing a documentary about events in the special military operation (SVO) zone in Ukraine. “It’s a big task to show us and the whole world what’s really going on there, to show the whole truth,” he said.
According to the artist, the tape will contain evidence that the special operation “was not an invasion of Russia, as other countries of the world, in particular, representatives of NATO and the United States, say.” Seagal also said that he visited hot spots in the Northern Military District zone and talked with both Russian and Ukrainian soldiers. As the actor admitted, for him “it was a shock that Ukrainians believe that they don’t have Nazis.”
Before this, he expressed confidence that Russia would win the military conflict in Ukraine. “Yes, I’m telling you for sure, we will win,” Seagal emphasized and added that he considers Russia his home forever.
Azov fighters have been in captivity since 2022
In May 2022, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced full control over the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, where prolonged fighting took place. In total, during the operation, 2,439 Azov fighters and military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine laid down their arms and surrendered. Sergei Shoigu, who then held the post of Minister of Defense, also said that during the capture of Azovstal, more than four thousand Ukrainian military personnel, including “Azovites,” were liquidated.
As of September 2024, more than 900 members of the national formation are still in captivity.
