Serra has finished gardening
It cannot be said that the wait was short and painless, but The era of Ferrari’s new technical director, Loic Serra, has finally begun. The Cavallino team had in fact started negotiations to snatch the Frenchman from Mercedes already in the summer of 2023, but the transfer had actually only materialized a few months ago, also due to the long period of gardening leave imposed by the Toto Wolff team. The leave phase ended on October 1st, with Serra taking up service in the Maranello factory.
Ferrari itself made the start of Serra’s job official, publishing the first photo of the 52-year-old in the red uniform on the official website. The engineer, an expert in the functioning of suspensions, tires and more generally in vehicle dynamics (a crucial area for the current regulations and in which the Cavallino is traditionally lacking), This is his first career position as technical director. Initially hired to carry out the role of Head of Engineering and Performance, Serra takes over the baton of technical direction from team principal Frederic Vasseur, who had assumed the role interim after Enrico Cardile’s choice to move to Aston Martin.
Ferrari, D’Ambrosio is also there
Together with Serra, Former driver Jerome D’Ambrosio also begins work in Maranello. After an apprenticeship as team principal of Venturi Racing in Formula E and as vice-boss of the Mercedes pit wall alongside Toto Wolff, the 38-year-old will hold the same role at Ferrari, reporting directly to Vasseur. Belgian of clear Italian origins, D’Ambrosio will also take over the command of the Ferrari Driver Academy program for young talentswho nurtured Charles Leclerc and, ultimately, future Haas F1 driver Oliver Bearman.
