A man shouted at the general audience that was being held by Pope Francis in the Paul VI Hall on Wednesday and had to be removed, without offering any resistance, by the Vatican Gendarmerie.
During the traditional Wednesday audience, attended by thousands of people, a man in his 40s or 50s began shouting, in English, interrupting the pope, who was reading his catechesis.
According to some of those present, the man, visibly distraught, was shouting against the wearing of masks in the Church and against the pontiff. He then took off his face shield in front of everyone.
Witnesses pointed out that he had repeatedly shouted that “the Church is not the way God wants it”, and, upon being withdrawn, said: “God rejects you, Father. You are not a king.”
Eventually, the man was removed from the scene without resistance by members of the Gendarmerie. Francis then asked for prayers for him. “He is screaming because he is suffering,” the pope said, asking the faithful present to say a Hail Mary for him.
