The Bundesliga again offered enough spectacle on Saturday afternoon. Not in numbers of goals, but in surprising results and scoring Dutch. An overview.
Malen first goal in Bundesliga for winning Dortmund
Donyell Malen has already scored in the Champions League for Borussia Dortmund. In the competition he just couldn’t find it, until today. The striker opened the score against VfB Stuttgart in the second half. But the attacker could not enjoy his goal for long, because the visitors came alongside again a few minutes later: 1-1.
Despite the dominance and the countless opportunities, Borussia Dortmund only made the difference just before the end of the game. Marco Reus made it 2-1. With this, the number 2 of the Bundesliga benefited from the misstep of Bayern Munich a day earlier at Augsburg (2-1) loss. The gap is only one point left.
Weghorst goal not enough for Wolfsburg
VfL Wolfsburg came against Arminia Bielefeld (seventeenth) no further than a 2-2 draw. The number 4 of the Bundesliga, in which Wout Weghorst participated for 90 minutes, did have a good dose of resilience. The home team took the lead in the eleventh minute, after which a utilized penalty kick made it 2-0.
Then Wolfsburg struck twice within one minute. First Weghorst, who scored for the first time in two months, then his partner in striker Lukas Nmecha: 2-2. That was it. Wolfsburg dropped to fifth place.
Frimpong important in Leverkusen victory
The Dutch tinted Bayer Leverkusen, where Mitchel Bakker and Timothy Fosu-Mensah were missing due to injuries and Daley Sinkgraven started on the bench, booked a narrow victory over VfL Bochum. The 1-0 was already on the scoreboard in the fourth minute, when Amine Adil scored on a pass from Jeremie Frimpong. It remained tense until the last seconds in Leverkusen, but the home team took the victory and climbed to fourth place.
Hoffenheim surprises RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig came out of the international break badly, while Dortmund was defeated 2-1 before this. On a visit to Hoffenheim, the number 6 of the Bundesliga went down 2-0. Diadie Samassekou opened the score, then Munas Dabbur doubled the lead for the home team in the second half. Immediately afterwards Brian Brobbey came in, but the former Ajax striker couldn’t make the difference either.
Willems with Greuter Fürth down again
Closer Greuter Fürth has not yet won this season. That did not change at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Jetro Willems started in the starting line-up, Nick Viergever and Justin Hoogma watched injured as their teammates were already 3-0 behind before half time. Fifteen minutes after the break, Jonas Hofmann made it 4-0. Greuter Fürth only took one point this season, Gladbach climbed to seventh place.
