The optimal break between flu and coronavirus shots should be two weeks. This was stated by the deputy head of the Gamaleya Center Denis Logunov at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 21.
At the same time, the scientist noted that this gap is recommended, but there are no restrictions on the use of these drugs.
“At the moment, it is enough to wait two weeks, in my opinion, because this is exactly the period that is associated with primary inflammatory reactions, which completely disappear in two weeks. In such an interval, we will definitely not have any complications. It will not be considered a simultaneous application. But on the other hand, we will definitely understand that one vaccine does not harm the other, ”said Logunov.
According to him, the specialists of the center conducted experiments on the simultaneous introduction of two vaccines. With this application, two reactions are possible: either vaccines will block each other, or one will strengthen the other, the specialist explained.
“We have shown that there is a significant increase in the effectiveness of the influenza vaccine when co-vaccinated with the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine,” he concluded.
On October 19, allergist-immunologist Vladimir Bolibok told Izvestia that it is not forbidden to use vaccines against coronavirus and influenza at the same time, but there are restrictions for vaccination against COVID-19. He noted that the instructions for the coronavirus vaccine indicate that other vaccine preparations should be used no earlier than two weeks later when it comes to CoviVac, and three weeks later – for other vaccines.
On the same day, Mikhail Kostinov, a professor at the Mechnikov Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums, advised to first be vaccinated against coronavirus. According to him, if a person has not yet been ill with COVID-19 and has not been vaccinated, first of all, it is worth taking care of the immune protection against coronavirus infection.
On October 22, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation allowed simultaneous vaccination against influenza and coronavirus with Sputnik V, and on October 27 – with Sputnik Light.
Against the background of a worsening epidemiological situation, the Russian authorities are urging residents of the country to get vaccinated in order to protect their health and take care of their loved ones. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Five vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, which became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world, as well as Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVak.
