Scholz called the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine “a line that must not be crossed”
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that the use of nuclear weapons in the conflict in Ukraine is “a line that must not be crossed.” He stated this, speaking at the congress of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), reports TASS.
“It is unacceptable to use nuclear weapons. We call on Russia to clearly state that it will not do this,” the politician said.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said earlier that NATO considers the risk of Russia using nuclear weapons in Ukraine small. “There will be no winners in a nuclear war. We are giving this message clearly,” he said.
In October, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the West of fomenting the threat of nuclear war. In his opinion, Western countries are simply looking for an additional argument for confrontation. Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrei Kelin said on Sky News that Moscow adheres to the firm principle not to use nuclear weapons.
