Schiphol cannot rule out the possibility that it will have to ask airlines again to cancel bookings in order to keep the crowds manageable next weekend. “At the moment it is not yet possible to answer that question in black and white with a yes or no,” answers an airport spokesperson.
For the time being, Schiphol hopes to prevent too much crowds by letting flights depart from other airports. KLM reports that Schiphol has asked to look again at the flight schedule, but could not immediately say what that means exactly.
Last weekend, Schiphol asked airlines to cancel bookings to avoid unmanageable crowds, which meant that dozens of flights were cancelled. Customers from the airport also opted for a few flights to Rotterdam The Hague Airport, a subsidiary of the Schiphol Group.
