The messages that are being shared on the social network ensure that it is possible to get up to 800 euros
In recent days, messages and labels about alleged gifts from Shein have proliferated on Instagram. Under the comment of ‘Have you been tagged? Congratulations! Don’t miss out on the opportunity to get an €800 Shein card for just 2!’ They try to redirect the user to a page that pretends to be the online store. But it is nothing more than a scam based on a case of ‘phishing’: the scammers impersonate the brand to charge 2 euros and subscribe users to a paid service.
The scam begins with a label or mention in an Instagram ‘storie’ in which they assure you that you can get an 800-euro gift card on Shein just by paying 2 euros. To get it you have to follow the link that appears in the publication, a page that supplants the brand but has nothing to do with the official website.
Once there, they ask you to complete a survey and choose one of the available boxes to try your luck and find the gift card, which usually appears on the second try. Then to get it they ask you for your address and the payment of 2 euros that supposedly correspond to shipping costs. The following redirection takes you to enter your personal and bank card details.
This is where some conditions appear in fine print in which they warn that they will charge you 2 euros for a three-day trial period and, subsequently, the payment for the service is 43.5 euros every 14 days. Of course, data should never be given in this type of scam. If you come across one of these posts on Instagram, it is recommended to block it and report the profile that has tagged you.
