The starting grid for the 2022 World Superbike season is taking shape more and more: the Bonovo team has in fact announced its line-up for next year, passing from one to two bikes and fielding Eugene Laverty and Loris Baz. The rumors that the two drivers were giving together with the BMW satellite team had been chasing each other for some time, but now it’s official. The Bonovo team is back on track after having closed their season early.
Bonovo ends a difficult 2021, but is preparing for an incredible 2022. He will count on veteran Laverty, who was already involved in the RC Squadra Corse satellite team earlier this season, but was forced to stop due to the team’s reorganization. Alongside the Irishman, who is busy replacing the injured Tom Sykes in the factory team in this last phase of the season, we will find Loris Baz.
After a spell in MotoAmerica, the French rider will return full-time to World Superbike, having once again shown his worth in two rounds this year. Called by the Go Elevn team to replace Chaz Davies, who is busy in recovery, Baz has shown that he can be competitive enough to convince Bonovo to have him with him for next year. The two drivers will race in the factory spec BMW M1000RR.
Loris Baz enthusiastically comments on the return to Superbike with BMW: “I am really happy to be back in World Superbike, so I want to thank BMW and the Bonovo action BMW Racing team for giving me this opportunity. In these two rounds in Spain and Portugal I think I have shown that I have the pace to fight in the top positions in this championship. BMW is the brand that has grown the most in this second part of the season. I watched closely how the bike improved. I have raced with BMW in the past, racing with MGM Racing for a race in 2012. I am very happy and excited about this opportunity. I can’t wait to try the bike and start working with the team and BMW. Thanks again to all the people involved in this project ”.
Eugene Laverty expresses his satisfaction in continuing this path: “I am very happy to continue with BMW and join the Bonovo action BMW Racing team for the 2022 World Superbike season. It’s great to stay in the BMW family in Superbike. The last six months have been difficult for me as a driver, so I am very grateful for the support and trust that the people involved in the project have placed in me. I am very motivated and I want to repay my confidence with my skills, I feel confident that after a solid winter we can be ready and competitive for the first round of 2022 ”.
