Under the cold sun of Assen, Alvaro Bautista roars again and returns to victory. On Sunday in the Netherlands, the Superpole Race opens the day of racing, which now bears the signature of the reigning world champion. The Aruba.it Racing – Ducati rider outmaneuvers his teammate Nicolò Bulega at the end, dominating from the traffic lights but then second in the -12 Ducati.
With the success in the Superpole Race, Bautista signs his 61st victory after a splendid comeback race, which started in difficulty and then ended with a great recovery. What made the difference in the first laps was instead the rookie and leader of the championship, who took the lead straight away, putting a good margin between himself and his pursuers. This was also favored by the fight behind him, which saw Jonathan Rea, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Alex Lowes as protagonists, who were chasing Remy Gardner, firmly in third place.
However, no one had taken into account Bautista, who in the final laps pulled off a series of incredible overtakings which led him to immediately get rid of the trio fighting for the podium: with the two Ducatis in first and second position, fighting for the last position on the podium it was the Yamaha standard bearer, his former Kawasaki teammate and the BMW Turk, who appeared to be in much more difficulty.
Remy Gardner initially seemed to come out on top, best of the independents and third, only to then lose the podium at the last chicane, mocked by Alex Lowes. The British rider from Kawasaki thus finished in third position ahead of the Australian from the GRT team, who was the first Yamaha rider to reach the finish line. Fifth position for Jonathan Rea, who preceded Andrea Locatelli, sixth in the final after a great overtaking on Sam Lowes, seventh with the Ducati of the Marc VDS team.
Toprak Razgatlioglu was stopped by some problems on his BMW and was unable to materialize the big battles, crossing the finish line only in ninth position, behind teammate Michael van der Mark, eighth. Closing out the top 10 we find Scott Redding, who precedes his garage neighbor Garrett Gerloff, 11th with the other Bonovo.
Xavi Vierge, the only HRC rider on the track because Iker Lecuona injured his knee in yesterday's FP3, crossed the finish line in 12th position, ahead of Axel Bassani, 13th with the official Kawasaki. Complicated race for Dominique Aegerter, 14th ahead of an extremely struggling Andrea Iannone and only 15th. Michael Ruben Rinaldi's Superpole Race was even tougher, fourth on the first lap, but only 16th at the checkered flag. After yesterday's victory in Race 1, Nicholas Spinelli did not go beyond 18th position, behind Tarran Mackenzie. Philipp Oettl and Bradlet Ray close the group, 19th and 20th respectively. Out Adam Norrodin and Tito Rabat.
