She stated that the Hajj season this year coincides with rising temperatures in the holy sites, stressing that exposure to sunlight for long periods poses a great danger to the health of pilgrims.
She called on pilgrims to always use umbrellas to avoid direct exposure to the sun, drink water in sufficient quantities throughout the day, and adhere to all health instructions.
She pointed out that the biggest challenge in this year’s Hajj is the high temperatures, and the number of people exposed to heat exhaustion and sunstroke as of yesterday reached about 569 cases.
In a related context, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday that 14 Jordanians died, while the number of others missing reached 17 during the Hajj season.
The ministry said yesterday that at least 6 of the deaths were related to the extreme heat wave.
The Jordanian News Agency, Petra, quoted the spokesman for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sufyan Al-Qudah, as saying that all the deceased and missing Jordanian pilgrims are not part of the official Jordanian Hajj delegation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it is coordinating with the Saudi authorities regarding procedures for burying or transporting the bodies of the deceased according to the wishes of their families.
In this context, the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, in cooperation with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (Sdaya), activated the “Help Me” application service to receive reports requesting emergency service through the “Tawakkalna” application, as part of the efforts made by the Red Crescent to provide the best ambulance services in all areas.
