The traditional pagan festival, with 172 years of history, once again fills the streets of Murcia after the stoppage of the pandemic with its joy, color and spectacle
More than a million toys launched from the 23 floats of the sardine groups, named after the gods of Olympus, put the finishing touch to a Saturday night in which the Burial of the Sardine 2022 shone with a special intensity through the streets of Murcia crowded with tens of thousands of citizens and visitors. There is still, this Sunday, the closing of the thirty orchard huts that have offered examples of Murcian gastronomy scattered throughout the city’s parks and squares since Sunday, April 17.
About 2,000 people, including sardine fishermen and hachoneros, and members of the invited groups from inside and outside the Region and even from the country, made an effort to offer a unique show in Europe, not in vain it is a festival declared of International Tourist Interest. Murcia, Águilas and Yecla, Cádiz, Galicia, France, Italy and Bolivia, among others, were represented by animation groups.
The performances, accompanied throughout the tour by charangas, musical bands and batucadas, provoked gestures of joy, amazement and admiration on the faces of the youngest and not a few adults. Once again, the most surprising acrobatics, the impressive light and fire shows and the inflatables or dancing dolls, put the spectators in the pocket. The Bolivian caporales group, with their colorful costumes and joyful dances, also dazzled and shared a parade with the Galician Lumen and their bagpipes. Both visited Murcia for the first time.
