Sara Aagesenthe current Secretary of State for Energy, will replace Teresa Ribera as third vice president of the Government and minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, as sources from the Executive have confirmed to EFE.
This announcement comes after Ribera’s appointment as executive vice president of the new European Commission. The Government thus opts for an eminently technical profile, Aagesen is not affiliated with any party political.
With this appointment, Pedro Sánchez completes the changes in its Executive, to which Óscar López, who was director of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Government, recently joined as minister for Digital Transformation and the Public Service, filling the vacancy left by José Luis Escrivá after his appointment as the new governor of the Bank of Spain.
The decision of the Executive also implies recognizing the weight of energy policy on your agenda –especially since the gas and electricity price crisis as a consequence of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022–, and guarantees a path of continuity in a portfolio that seems fundamental for the Spanish economy.
