Santa Fe can no longer extend its qualification certificate to the semi-final home runs of the League. He has more than one foot inside, with 28 points, 29 being the average classification number, but he needs to add at least one more point to be calm, and he will try to achieve the goal this Tuesday when he visits Once Caldas in Manizales (8:20 pm Win Sports + TV).
The cardinal team just tied at home against Atlético Nacional, 0-0, in a match in which they had the best opportunities to win. They even disallowed a goal from Daniel Torres that is still being discussed. Santa Fe showed in that match that he has the weapons to continue improving, although he still has to refine in the last third of the field.
The team once again focuses its goal hopes on the forward Hugo Rodallega, who is the best scorer on the team. Against Nacional, Hugo was close to scoring, in fact, he had a good opportunity with a spectacular overhead kick, but he was unlucky. Today could be his revenge to convert again, just when the team needs the peace of mind of qualifying.
“You have to keep a short, compact team, that is going to be key. You have to be aggressive and reduce the spaces of the rival team. These types of games in the final stretch are all very similar,” said the coach. Pablo Peirano.
There are three days left to close this round-robin phase. Santa Fe still has to face Caldas today, then América in El Campín and closes with a visit to Jaguares. That is, nine points at stake to complete a task that is practically done. Santa Fe enjoys a certain tranquility considering that the teams that are out today, Millonarios, Fortaleza and Medellín, are six points away.
However, coach Pablo Peirano's idea is for the team to continue raising its level, improving, solving errors to reach the next phase as strong as possible, in which there will no longer be room for blinks.
“We must continually adjust many things: the definition, the midfielder's area, wing play, where to find the spaces. Sometimes players are not there due to injury or other situations and you have to adjust to everything to make the best decisions. If things had gone normally, we would be in a better position, but now we have to fight against Once Caldas,” said coach Peirano after the draw against Nacional in Bogotá.
The cardinal team is still without attacker Agustín Rodríguez, who is still out due to injury. He is expected to play on the
next date. While José Correa and Facundo Agüero still would not be in a position to return to the cardinal call.
Once Caldas, for its part, has the same 28 points, so it is in identical circumstances as Santa Fe, one point away from the home run classification. That is to say that an eventual tie today at the Palogrande would certify the quota of both teams.
