Santa Fe returned to victory. They left behind their last two defeats in a row, and shook themselves in El Campín, with a key victory against Medellín, 1-0, with a score by Carlos Sánchez.
Santa Fe resorted to forcefulness: hit at the right time, very early, and try to control the result for the rest of the game, so as not to take risks. I couldn’t give up points again, least of all at home.
It was at minute 11 of the first half and on a still ball: a corner kick taken by Matías Mier, the DIM defense fell asleep, and Carlos Sánchez entered the area in complete solitude to score with a header.
country reaction
Medellin did not expect that blow so early. He tried to get up and reacted little by little, but every time he worked out his scoring options, he tripped over a Leandro castellanos immense.
The goalkeeper was the great architect of this cardinal victory, as he had sensational saves, such as one in the first half when he rose to an angle and avoided David Loaiza’s goal, in a shot from medium distance.
In the second half, the match kept the same trend: Medellín looking for, Santa Fe waiting and counterattacking with speed, although without generating risk. Jhon Velásquez and Goez were key to holding the ball.
Castilians, figure
In that second part the DIM tried again and again, with Arregui, with Luciano Pons, their scorer, who this time went blank. In fact he had a choice when he was facing the goal and kicked wrong.
Juan Mosquera had a great projection in attack, but when he finished off a cross he found the usual one, with Castellanos, who stuck out a foot and avoided the goal.
Medellín managed to celebrate the tie, at minute 87, when Pons finally beat Castellanos, but the play was previously disabled by central player Jhon Hinestroza.
In the end, a key victory for Santa Fe, which was effective and managed to shake off a tough rival.
