Jesús Navas (39) will hang up his boots at the end of this year and this Saturday, December 14, he played his last game with the Sevilla shirt at home, at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. The captain of the Seville club received a tribute to his career of more than two decades with the Nervión team before the match against Celta, in which tribute from the Sevilla fans.
Navas jumped onto the pitch and could not hold back his tears as the Sevilla fans cheered. He already appreciated those displays of affection during the warm-up, but the emotion grew even more when he entered the field accompanied by his two children and with the Seville team’s anthem in the background. All their footballers wore a t-shirt paying tribute to the Los Palacios and Villafranca player.
The Celta de Vigo team also did the same, wearing a red elastic band and forming a corridor with the Sevillistas to receive the Nervión captain. Previously, the captain of the light blue team, Iago Aspas, had given him a shirt signed by the entire Vigo team.
After greeting his wife and parents, Jesús Navas paraded through the hallway of the Sevilla and Celta footballers while the fans cheered him on, chanting “Navas, Navas, Navas.” At the same time, the Sánchez-Pizjuán fans displayed a huge banner with the message “Pride of Nervión.”
At the end of the hallway, there was a shelf with all the titles that Jesús Navas has achieved with the Andalusian entity. To put the finishing touch to a farewell typical of a Sevilla legend, the footballer took the honor kick-off with his children. Specifically, the palace has won two Copas del Rey, one Spanish Super Cup, four Europa Leagues and one European Super Cup with the Seville team.
In the 69th minute, he touched the last ball. He did it after a service from Álvaro Fernández and the Sevillian turned his hair upside down. That’s when he was replaced. Navas shook hands with the referee and hugged Iago Aspas, with whom he shared several international caps with Spain. Sánchez-Pizjuán, surrendered to the palace, stood up. Navas knelt and kissed the grass of the Seville fiefdom. He came up to greet the Biris, Sevilla’s cheering crowd.
More than 21 years after December 7, 2003 in which he made his debut in Nervión against Zaragoza, the 39-year-old footballer puts an end to his love affair with the club of his life at home. There have been 703 games and there will still be the duel against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu on December 22, which will be his last game as a professional.
