The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, formalized this Monday the appointment of Sara Aagesen as a substitute for Teresa Ribera. He has done so through an institutional declaration made in Moncloa. The former third vice president and Minister of Ecological Transition leaves the Council of Ministers to join the European Commission.
“Our loss in Spain is the gain of all of Europe,” Sánchez said of Ribera. “His appointment has been made overcoming lies, His career and good work are beyond doubt. I am convinced that with the appointment of Teresa, Spain wins and Europe wins,” he added, in reference to the maneuvers used by the PP in Brussels to try to stop her election.
The leader of the Executive has highlighted that Ribera “was already an international reference” in the fight against climate change. “His work during these six and a half years leaves an even more indelible mark on our country. He has carried out an unprecedented boost to the development of renewable energies and has ensured that millions of families and companies have significantly reduced their electricity bills,” has added.
Born in Madrid in 1976, Aagesen is a chemical engineer from the Complutense University of Madrid, with a specialty in Environment, and since January 2020 she has been practicing cas Secretary of State for Energy.
Throughout his professional career he has held different positions related to the area of the portfolio that he will lead. In 2002 he joined the Climate Change Officewhere he developed a career linked to climate action and the energy transition both nationally and internationally.
“No one better than someone who embodies those same values, rigor, professionalism and expert knowledge“, Sánchez highlighted about the new third vice president. Under her “leadership”, the President of the Government added, Spain will continue to be a “world reference” in environmental issues and ecological transition.
