NATO appreciates the support
The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, conveyed this Sunday his thanks to the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, for the “vital contribution” of the country to the Atlantic Alliance on the crisis in Ukraine with the deployment of the frigate ‘Blas de Lezo’. «I have spoken with President Pedro Sánchez to prepare the NATO summit in Madrid. I have thanked him for Spain’s vital contribution to NATO, the latest example being the deployment of the ‘Blas de Lezo’ frigate,” Stoltenberg said on his Twitter account.
The frigate, which set sail this Saturday from its base in Ferrol (Galicia), will join one of the NATO groups, the SNMG-2, in the Mediterranean Sea, which includes naval units from the different allied countries, heading to an area of the Black Sea in the midst of a crisis between Russia and Ukraine.
The Secretary General of NATO added that the discussion held with Sánchez has covered “Russia and Ukraine” and reiterated the union between Spain and the Atlantic Alliance, both in the current crisis and with a view to the forthcoming celebration of the 40th Summit of the NATO that will take place in the capital of Spain on June 29 and 30. “We remain united, ready to defend each other, and ready for dialogue,” the secretary general concluded.
