He assures that the Government will continue to “articulate measures” to cushion the effects of the war and recognizes a “huge uncertainty”
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, today warned Spaniards to prepare for any scenario in the coming months and has indicated that without the economic measures he has adopted, inflation would be 15 percent. In addition, he has stated that he will continue “articulating measures” to cushion the effects of the war.
This was stated during an interview in La Sexta, collected by Europa Press, in which he admitted that the inflation data for the month of June, which exceeds 10 percent, is very bad. Although he has claimed that they planned it because Putin is using the energy. But he believes that this data could be worse if the Government had not articulated the measures.
But he wanted to make it clear, without “hot cloths”, that the truth must be told to citizens and that “we must prepare for any scenario” because Putin is using gas and oil as another weapon of war.
“Considering a shortage of gas and oil is a real risk that we have to take very seriously,” he stressed before specifying that the war could be much longer and prolonged because he does not see Putin as interested in opening a diplomatic path.
Thus, he has stated that the risk is that the gas supply will be cut off next winter and for this reason he has insisted on telling the Spanish that they have to be prepared for any scenario. Meanwhile, he has specified, the Government will do the same as during the covid, that is, put all the necessary resources to defend families, companies and industries.
However, he did not want to specify whether there is a risk of recession because he considers that there is now a lot of uncertainty, since a scenario with a gas cut in winter is not the same as without a gas cut.
«If the war continues over time, we will have to show solidarity, all Europeans will have to be responsible and be aware that the price we can pay for the defense of values is something, but that of doing nothing and allowing Putin to continue with his imperialist drift, It can be much worse in the long run,” he argued.
