The Prime Minister says it would be convenient for him to offer his version of events and praises the figure of Felipe VI
Pedro Sánchez released a message to King Juan Carlos on Thursday. Days after it became known that the Prosecutor’s Office is inclined to archive the proceedings that it assumed in June 2020 to investigate its patrimonial irregularities and that the former head of State is considering returning to Spain before the end of the year, the President of the Government called of “convenient” that it gives explanations on the cases that splash to him.
Sánchez defended, in an interview in La Sexta, that the work of the current monarch, Felipe VI, is being “exemplary” and valued his attempts to provide “transparency” in activities related to the Casa del Rey. But he dropped that issues such as the alleged AVE commissions to Mecca, denounced by his ex-lover Corinna Larsen, hurt the Crown.
The Chief Executive assured that the Government has nothing to do with the position of the Prosecutor’s Office. “In this case as in any other, and I promise my word,” he said, “we are not doing any exercise of favoritism because of the fact that we are King Juan Carlos.” However, he also pointed out that it would be good for the ex-monarch to give his version of “these things” that have become known, regardless of what justice ends up ruling.
