MADRID (dpa-AFX) – In Spain, head of government Pedro Sánchez wants to set up 13,000 stations across the country for vaccinations against Covid-19. This provides for a vaccination plan that has been worked out and that he will present in detail on Tuesday, the socialist said on TV on Sunday evening. “Together with Germany, our country will be the first in the European Union to have a complete vaccination plan,” he emphasized.
The EU has already secured a total of 1.2 billion vaccine doses, of which Spain is entitled to ten percent, said Sánchez. He had already announced on Friday that “a considerable part of the population” could be vaccinated in the first half of 2021 as part of this project.
Spain is one of the hardest hit countries in Western Europe by the corona pandemic. So far, more than 1.5 million corona infections and more than 42,600 deaths related to Covid-19 have been registered. The number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days fell from 233 to 168, as the Ministry of Health announced on Friday. No nationwide corona numbers will be published in Spain at the weekend. For comparison: According to the Robert Koch Institute, the value on Sunday in Germany was 140.7. / Ro / DP / fba
