Genoa – Today is Sampdoria D-Day: shortly after 7 pm in the Mestre studio of Gianluca Vidal the knot of the new president of Sampdoria will unravel. He will be a temporary chairman and will last just long enough to find a buyer who will take over Massimo Ferrero’s company in partial payment of the debt of his companies under a bankruptcy arrangement. At what figure? It is to be understood. With what times? As soon as possible. Obviously more months than days but the essence is that the path is established and hopefully as soon as possible the scenario will be clearer.
Technically, the shareholders’ meeting, after the meeting on December 24th, was updated to today, December 27th, to define the new board of directors within which the new president will also be present. There are various scenarios on the horizon: that the board of directors will be re-confirmed en bloc and integrated with additions (continuity line); or upset with the inclusion of technicians (accountants and lawyers) above all for the purposes of the best possible sale. Transfer which, as known, is not at all simple being Sampdoria in the hands of a trust and as a guarantee for other companies in bankruptcy.
In the outgoing board there are Paolo Fiorentino, Gianluca Vidal, Enrico Castanini and Giuseppe Profiti, or the four councilors, none of whom seem to be in the position of assuming the presidency in the event of reconfirmation. The integration to be made is to replace Massimo Ferrero, who resigned after being arrested for financial crimes and from Christmas Eve no longer in prison in San Vittore but under house arrest in his Roman home.
Names of candidates have been circulating for days but only Vidal and Ferrero, who, moreover, cannot speak to each other directly but through Ferrero’s lawyers because the house arrest regime does not allow them, have the ball in hand. In the last few hours, that of Marco Lanna, former Sampdoria defender who could represent a choice of both Sampdoria representation and experience considering that after football he dedicated himself to the world of business in the real estate field, he therefore does not have a profile only as a “flag”. The former defender would have given his availability and his name can only make the fans dream in view of the resumption of negotiations with Gianluca Vialli who remains the dream of the dreams of the Sampdoria world.
But another name that circulates is that of Antonio Romei, a lawyer and dismissed months ago by Ferrero (and not even too “close” to Vidal), but more than president he would be a possible technical insertion in the board of directors as a connoisseur of the company and therefore equipped to ferry the next months with a view to sale. Romei (but also Lanna) would also have the profile to try to recover the relationship with Garrone.
Other names circulated were those of two other former footballers-flags such as Invernizzi and Nicolini, whose nominations, however, in the last few hours have been somewhat attenuated. Finally, there are several self-nominations to be registered by many who would have come forward and made themselves available for an assignment of this type, some for passion, some for the prestige and the resulting visibility. Almost certainly the new board will also include Alberto Bosco, the current operating director of the company, Genoese and Sampdoria doc, who has taken over the reins of ordinary management since Ferrero was in prison.
Technically, the times of the day today foresee that at 7 pm we will be appointed the new board of directors and immediately following, or perhaps in a new call a few hours later, the appointment of the president, the nineteenth in the history of Sampdoria society. In short, the ball is in the hands of Gianluca Vidal (legal owner of the club through the trust in which it is located) who is spending all the Christmas holidays dealing with this.
An appointment has already been made a few hours ago and concerns the position of sole director of SportSpettacolo, the parent company of Sampdoria which will have to validate the new board of directors of the subsidiary. In this case, the sole shareholder of the company, that is Vidal through the Rosen trust, opted for the internal solution and the choice fell on Massimo Ienca, secretary of the company.
