Barcelona. Artist and internet celebrity Samantha Hudson will act as a virtual guide in the “Active, Activism, Act (AAA)”, an exhibition on the new forms of activism of young people of “generation Z” that hosts the IDEAL Center de les Arts Digitals in Barcelona.
The AAA, which can be visited in person from today until May 1, will feature the participation of 15 artists “creative activists” of generation Z that will expose “new formats of discourse, dissidence, protest and vindication”.
As explained by the organizers in the presentation of the exhibition, the AAA proposes a “new model of cultural consumption” to “attract the public of generation Z” (young people between 18 and 24 years old) through a narrative that combines face-to-face with online content.
“The project has led us to understand that generation Z was not occupying many cultural institutions”, explained the curator of “Active, Activism, Act”, Saúl Baeza.
Artists like Samantha Hudson, XRebellion, Mabel Olea, laSADCUM, AMAGA, Émergent Magazine, Azeema, Afffirmations, Kai Landre, NEURODUNGEON, No Signal Radio, Julen Beloki or Paula Cruzado, will take part in the “Active, Activism, Act”.
AAA’s master of ceremonies, Samantha Hudson, will respond via a WhatsApp number to messages sent by visitors to the exhibition and will provide access to “extra content” that complements the physical experience through voice notes, “stickers” or videos.
“I’m like a kind of holographic airport stewardess, but with a better look, much more nice and a little more thug”, Hudson has summed up.
The opening of the exhibition falls to the “cyborg musician” Kai Landre, who will offer an “immersive musical experience” at IDEAL on Monday afternoon and can also be seen via streaming.
The exhibition will feature immersive experiences, such as the NEURODUNGEON proposal, which will offer visitors an “augmented sensory experience” through smart clothing that integrates software that generates vibrations to the rhythm of a musical list.
Within AAA, dancer and performer Mabel Oleala will commission a “mini festival” in which artists and choreographers will perform in a giant boxing ring while reflecting on “different body positioning in speculative choreography.”
The hybrid format of “Active, Activism, Act” seeks to adapt to the platforms and maintain the “own format and way of communicating” of the participating artists, who usually express themselves through the online world, detailed the curator Baeza.
In this way, Hudson has assured that for the young generations “a tweet is like the greguerías of Ramón Gómez de la Serna”, and has also described the creation of “memes” as a “new way of generating visual art”.
“It is a form of language of the new generations that must be vindicated because there is a brutal disconnection between museums and institutions and young people”, explained the artist.

After the closure of the physical exhibition at IDEAL, the participating artists will continue to generate content, such as videos, direct shows, podcasts or beauty tutorials through their social networks until May 31.
Access to the face-to-face version of the AAA is free and must be previously reserved online.
