Saman Abbas, Danish uncle after extradition to Italy questioned in prison denies being involved in the disappearance of his niece
Danish Hasnain, 34-year-old Pakistani recipient of a European arrest warrant for kidnapping, voluntary murder and concealment of the body of his niece Saman Abbas, was extradited to Italy on January 20 (to find out more, here). In front of the investigating judge, however, the man has yesterday denied any involvement in the disappearance of Saman. In the interrogation on Monday afternoon in front of the magistrate Luca Ramponi, which lasted almost two and a half hours, it was uncle Danish claimed to have been “framed” for a matter of money and land.
The Carabinieri and the Reggio Emilia Prosecutor’s Office accuse him instead of being the material perpetrator of the murder of the girl, disappeared from Novellara in Reggiano on the evening of April 30, 2021, after she rebelled against an Islamic marriage arranged by her family.
At the end of the interrogation of the suspect, video connected from the prison with the court of Reggio Emilia, the lawyer Lalla Gherpelli speaks: “He declares himself in the dark of what may have happened to Saman. Precisely in consideration of the excellent and affectionate relations he had with his niece, he considered it plausible that he had removed voluntarily“. The defense attorney further added that” this is the version he received from his brother Shabbar“, that is from father of Saman Abbas “and by the nephew”, that is, by her minor brother, currently in a protected structure. Danish “is very keen to proclaim his innocence through the press and the media.”
And furthermore, the lawyer adds, “there is the possibility that Saman’s brother has made statements against him, frightened and conditioned by his father Shabbar, also in consideration of a potential economic advantage that would derive from his sentence. In Pakistan, in fact , the two brothers are co-owners of a piece of land and if he were convicted he would be entitled to Shabbar “.
The suspect “asked the prosecutor for help to investigate, investigate and clarify”. The 34-year-old replied to all questions, “with coherence and tranquility, without ever his voice being disturbed”. To the question relating to the video showing him with a shovel and crowbar together with two cousins, on April 29, when according to investigators they went to dig the grave in Saman, he replied that they went “to work in the garden”.
