Polish Caritas highlighted “the things necessary for refugees from Ukraine”
Matteo Salvini and the parliamentarians of the Lega Marco Campomenosi and Luca Toccalini had a meeting with the apostolic nunciature in Poland. In addition to the apostolic nuncio, Monsignor Salvatore Pennacchio, there were also Artur Mizinski general secretary of the Polish Bishops ‘Conference, Andrea Francia councilor of the Apostolic Nunciature and Pawel Rytel-Andrianik, director of the international relations office of the Polish Bishops’ Conference.
The meeting, which was also attended by the ambassador Aldo Amati, it was useful to take stock of the situation after the first days of conflict and to frame the priorities, confirming the central role of the Church and the great attention of the leader of the League. At the moment it is estimated that one million Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Poland, 90% of them women and children, and the flow does not stop: 100 thousand entries are estimated every 24 hours. Over time, reception problems will increase, which up to now has managed to be very effective also for the generosity of Polish citizens.
The Polish Caritas highlighted “things needed for refugees from Ukraine“: instant food for mothers and children (from powdered milk to fruit mousse, from long-life canned goods to breakfast cereals); personal hygiene products (from diapers to toothpastes, from masks to baby creams); basic necessities (blankets, towels, torches, batteries, sleeping bags); medicines for the injured (tourniquets, syringes, cannulas, pain relievers and disinfectants).
“Many Italian companies and families are ready to do their part, both by helping the 10,000 parishes in Poland by sending donations of all kinds, and welcoming part of the 100,000 people who flee Ukraine every day to Italy“, Salvini commented.” We want to be of help in coordinating these aids, and in organizing travel and hospitality in Italy for these families, with particular attention to orphans and the disabled, and for this reason we are collaborating with some non-profit organizations. ‘Ora et labora’ is an extraordinarily topical principle. “During the meeting there was also a discussion of humanitarian corridors and the plight of unaccompanied minors.
