Last week, a Salvation Army van containing thousands of dollars worth of gifts for poor children was stolen in Farmington. The inhabitants of the city now donate goods and money that it is a delight to ‘beat the Grinch’.
At the time of the theft, the white van contained about $6,000 worth of gifts (more than 5,300 euros), intended for more than 350 children.
A Salvation Army employee was busy buying the gifts at the local Wall Mart on Tuesday evening. He was assisted in this and during loading by Anthony Crespin (37). After the Salvation Army employee finished shopping in the store, Crespin took the bus off. “Somehow,” the car key was rolled out of his colleague’s pocket, Christopher Rockwell of the nonprofit’s local branch told local media.
“We are in shock, can’t believe it. How can anyone do such a thing. Bringing presents from kids,” Rockwell says. ,,It looks like an action by the Grinch”, he refers to the green character from (cartoon) films, which initially has nothing to do with Christmas. “But we won’t let the Grinch win.”
Police launched an investigation and shared photos of the bus and the perpetrator.
Gifts
Crespin and the bus have not yet been found. And that while handing out the gifts for tomorrow is planned. The people of Farmington have therefore taken action. The donations have been pouring in at the Salvation Army in the last few days. Toys, clothes, toiletries and money, it is more than enough to replace the stolen goods. Rockwell: ,,We have a waiting list of children. We can now see to what extent we can eliminate them. This shows how much charity still exists here.”
The Salvation Army is a Christian organization founded in London in 1865. The organization is now active in more than a hundred countries and is known for its homeless shelters, among other things.
