At the same time that a guy tried to commit suicide in Atocha and caused a delay of more than two hours in all the trains at the station, some happy boys, very young and handsome, danced the conga singing the song of the swinging elephant and cheered up the crowd. all with their songs and smiles and joy of life. The security came out to ask them to calm down and shouted even more with the chant of “bote, bot, safety, whoever doesn’t skip.” The tragedy and the joy mixed in a single scene along with the anguish of a very young mother with a baby in her arms and the fatigue of so many who saw how the arrival at our homes was delayed until dawn. Sometimes someone does something and interrupts the world and I don’t know if you are aware of the amount of feelings and inconveniences it causes. I suppose that if you want to kill yourself you are not in your right mind, but no matter how important you believe your drama is, you have to know that the most likely response is indifference and having someone dance on your memories. The Atocha station was absurdly insensitive to the waiting passengers and closed the bars on the first floor, where thousands of people were crowded, leaving everyone without the possibility of buying even a sad bottle of water. It is true that everyone has schedules, especially on a Saturday night in Madrid, but you don’t have to be very intelligent to take care of such obvious situations. Some humanity and good will are enough, but on the night of the incidents they were conspicuous by their absence. The information given was equally terrible. Nobody was able to explain anything reliably. Nobody took the passengers’ anguish seriously and what the employees of each railway company responded to whoever asked was, in addition to being insufficient, a lack of respect for their status as customers. There was a time when it was not even guaranteed that the trains were leaving and traveling with my daughter I thought it was prudent to call Only You Atocha and make a reservation for the night. With such short notice you had to pay on the spot and there was no room for a refund if you didn’t need it. I took the risk. When it became known that our train to Barcelona was finally leaving, I called the hotel and they immediately offered to cancel at no cost. This establishment that had nothing to do with the situation was much more understanding than those involved in it. Treating cornered and defenseless people like cattle is especially and reprehensibly base. Neither Renfe nor Adif are to blame for someone trying to take their own life, but we take note once again of their way of treating us. Nobody agrees so much or so often with the enemies of Spain. The young boys continued singing until, two hours or so late, the trains began to leave and we forgot the one who did not want to live and we resumed our lives back home.
