From Formula 1 to politics: the latest and most recent case of a former driver who passed in Parliament is to be identified in the figure of Sakon Yamamoto, 39 year old Japanese author of 21 GPs played in the top flight. The former bishop of Super Aguri, Spyker and HRT was in fact elected to the House of Representatives after winning the parliamentary elections in Japan with his own Liber-Democratic Party, which they declared Fumio Kishida as the new prime minister.
After leaving the top flight in 2010, Yamamoto had returned to his homeland to devote himself tomedical-social assistance in the role of Director of a company operating in the sector, to then compete in the 2014-15 Formula E season at the wheel of the Amlin Aguri. Before the affirmation in the last elections, the former pilot had tried to enter the Chamber of Councilors Japanese, but without succeeding in its objective.
Now, two years after that political failure, Yamamoto has thus celebrated the success achieved on Twitter, expressing all his joy for the goal achieved: “I won the elections for the 49th House of Representatives – it is read – the support of all of you will represent the energy for the challenges of the future that now bring us to the starting grid! “. Also through the same social network, the Japanese specified the aims and objectives of his new assignment through the publication of several tweets, focused on issues already touched upon in the past: “Medical care, long-term care and the well-being of people with disabilities – he wrote – we want continue to protect Japan’s social security, of which today we are proud in the world, also asking people and all workers to do their best. We will continue to work for those who have chosen us – he concluded – and we will do it with great determination ”.
Having established himself with karts at home, Yamamoto made his Formula 1 debut in 2006 – while the championship is in progress, after a previous experience as a third driver in Jordan – to replace Frank Montagny at the wheel of the Super Aguri, a Japanese team founded by the former Aguri Suzuki rider. In a season full of retirements and two 16th places as best result, in 2007 switch to Spyker in the role of test driver, obtaining promotion as an official driver always in the current championship. On the occasion of the home GP, Yamamoto crosses the finish line at 12th place, his best placing in F1. Subsequently hired by Renault as a test driver, in mid-2010 he was promoted again to official driver, this time by the Spanish team HRT. Also in this case, the current member of the House of Representatives fails to go beyond the 15th place, then concluding his career with 21 GP disputed. Before finally hanging up his helmet, Yamamoto finally participated in 2 Formula E races in 2014-15, both of which closed with a retirement.
