He does not smile Carlos Sainz at the end of FP2 of the Qatar Grand Prix. The Spaniard’s first approach on the Losail track was not optimal, as confirmed at least in part by his tenth time in the end-of-day ranking. The Ferrari driver actually did better than his teammate, Charles Leclerc, only 13th in the qualifying simulation. The Monegasque, however, explained that he concentrated above all on the simulation of the race pace, which he said was positive. The sensations of the Madrid player, on the other hand, did not seem as good.
“The first day on a new track is always exciting and challenging – Sainz began in his analysis – because it is a completely new experience. In all honesty, I think this circuit has surprised everyone with how racy it is and the speeds that can be reached in the corners. We will have to work hard on the set-up – he then specified the # 55, currently seventh in the world riders standings – because we had to change it a lot compared to what we had in mind. We are not yet where we would like to be and for this we will need to improve the car tonight because the competition is very close. However, I have full confidence that we can succeed and I hope that tomorrow we will be able to play for it in the top positions of the group“.
It would be essential for Ferrari to be able to earn even more points over McLaren in the constructors’ standings. A positive result also in Losail would in fact secure third place in the championship for the redhead, with the races in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi still to be run.
