Sainz-Ferrari, a year to say goodbye
When the Ferrarilast February 1st, announced theLewis Hamilton’s arrival for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, alongside the reconfirmed Charles Leclerc, the most disappointed by the choice of Maranello was Carlos Sainz. The Castilian driver was sacrificed by the top management of the Italian team to make room for Hamilton and therefore began the championship already aware that it would be his last with the Prancing Horse.
However, this did not prevent Sainz from doing well and achieving success at the Australian Grand Prix, despite the disappointment he suffered. And it was precisely about this feeling that he spoke on the Spanish TV programme El Hormiguero Of Antenna 3: “You don’t take it well, no one likes to be dumped. For me it was bad. I had some good years at Ferrari, but there was a seven-time world champion, Hamilton, who wanted to come to Ferrari and nothing could be done. I take it philosophically and I try to accept what happened. I also see it as an opportunity for the future, my goal remains to become world champion.”
Living with Leclerc
Sainz also spoke about the support received over the years from Ferrari and about living with Charles Leclerc, in a rather sincere way: “There has always been equal treatment, I honestly can’t complain about the treatment I received at Ferrari. In every team there are always moments of tension, you may think that sometimes you could have received an extra hand and Charles and Ferrari in turn may think that at some times I could have done better. But the racing world is like that and you turn the page and forget it. Leclerc and I are friends even away from the circuits and we make an excellent team. If there’s one thing that works particularly well it’s that we two riders get along very well, we win races, we take podiums and above all we work as a team.”
More Williams than Audi?
Sainz then explained that he has not yet decided who to sign for 2025: “I have a few options on the table and I’ll decide very soon because I want to get it out of my mind and focus on the rest of the championship with Ferrari. Williams? I have several options, practically in every team that still has a free slot for next year. I could sign tomorrow, but I want to take it easier. And Williams can be an option for me.”
