The father of the F1 Ferrari driver, victim of a frightening bang during the test of electric SUVs in Sardinia. Taken to Cagliari for investigations: “I’m in a lot of pain but I’m ok, but I’m angry about the accident and the penalty inflicted on whoever caused it. A few 30 seconds”

Great fear for Carlos Sainz in the final race of Extreme E in Capo Teulada, Sardinia. In the first phase of the race that awarded the title of this second stage of the rally with electric suvs, the Odyssey21 of the World Rally Champion was touched by that of Johann Kristoffersson, a champion with Nico Rosberg’s RXR team. Sainz’s car rolled over. The international direction did not show any images until the driver came out with his legs out of the car, showing signs of being in good condition. Even though he bent over soon after, evidently in pain.
Red flag
–
Again stop to the images, in the meantime the red flag has been exposed. At the resumption, the Odyssey 21 of Kristoffersson’s RXR team, visibly damaged in the front, took the lead. And after the switch he went on to win with Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinskiy at the wheel, ahead of the team from Ganassi and the Hummer with Kyle LeDuc and cross rider Sara Price; third the Xite Energy Racing team with Timo Scheider and Tamara Molinaro (first Italian podium in the short history of Extreme E).
Discharged
–
While the German anthem celebrated Rosberg’s team, Sainz was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Cagliari where he had no fractures and was discharged in the evening. “Fortunately, the medical checks – the Spaniard himself declared in the evening – were successful and I was discharged despite feeling a lot of pain. But I am angry for what happened on the track and for the penalty of only 30 seconds to those who caused the accident. In over 40 years of motorsport it is the most serious event I have seen without being punished in an exemplary manner. Thank you all for your support. “
Investigation
–
Shortly after the accident an investigation was opened by the race management, announced with a tweet from ExtremeE and harshly commented by Laia Sanz, companion of Sainz, in the Acciona-Sainz team. “Hopefully important decisions will be made, we can’t play with our lives like this,” he wrote under the championship tweet. Instead, only 30 “were imposed on the Rosberg team, which in any case had to renounce the victory.
