The fight for the victory waged with Max Verstappen in the final laps of the Canadian GP has rekindled strong motivations in Carlos Sainz, often criticized for his mistakes at the wheel of Ferrari in the first part of this championship. With this result, now two weeks ago, the Spaniard feels energized for the next round in Great Britain, scheduled for this weekend.
Interviewed less than a day before the start of the first free practice session, the Spaniard remarked on the progress made in adapting to the car, moreover on the eve of a circuit which, due to its characteristics, could give great satisfaction to the Cavallino. considering that in 2021 Charles Leclerc came within a hair’s breadth of victory despite the speed difference with Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes: “They have been there in the last few days steps forward in terms of confidence with the car – commented – finally I was able to demonstrate my skills and my adaptation to the car in the race as well. Now I think Silverstone represents a new challenge; is very similar to Barcelona, which was the last race in which I was able to really push. In Monaco, Baku and Montreal I was still close in terms of pace, but now we will see what it will be like to return to a circuit like this, where I hope to be able to maintain a high level ”.
Speaking of what happened in Canada, Sainz hopes to make an encore at Silverstone, on a track that could reserve a different outcome from the 2nd place on the track named after Gilles Villeneuve: “In any case, the fact remains that we did steps in the right direction – he added – but you’ll have to figure out how to do them on a high-speed track like this one. If I could feel as comfortable as I was in Canada, I think that everything is possible“.
