This year’s world championship is increasingly on its way to its natural conclusion, but among the teams and drivers who are the protagonists of the current season there is already the thought of the next championship. With 23 races scheduled on the calendar – an absolute record of events in the history of F1 – and with the overturning of the technical regulations, the general approach to 2022 will be increasingly fraught with worries, with the latter focusing on the need to find the right key to be able to face in the best way a season that, to date, represents a great question mark.
An aspect highlighted recently also by the Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, who thus tackled the delicate issue of the next championship ad Autosport before the US GP: “I think the coming season will be tough for everyone – commented the Spaniard – and it is no secret that it will present itself as the most difficult year in the entire history of F1. As pilots we will necessarily have to adapt to keep us at high levels throughout the world, as well as having to manage ourselves to arrive fresh at the end of the season, also resisting the long trips that we will face. As far as I’m concerned – he added – I am sure that I will do my duty to put in place a plan that will allow me to arrive in the second half of the season still in good shape ”.
Limited to 2021, Sainz also expressed his regret for the calendar that will develop from now to the end, with the impossibility of competing in the close stages, even in geographical terms, of Austin and Mexico City over two consecutive weeks. : “It is a pity that, due to the restrictions for Covid-19, it is not possible to do two race weekends one after the other. – analyzed the Iberian – it would have been easier for everyone. However, for example, after the Brazilian GP we will have to fly straight to Qatar to play the Losail weekend, and in this case there will be no week off in between. I have no problem with the order of the races, but I believe that the event management system is not very efficient. We all know that the pandemic has forced some compromises to be reached in terms of organization, but I really hope these things will not happen next year “.
He also expressed himself in this regard Pierre Gasly, with the Frenchman from AlphaTauri who criticized the failure to stop between Brazil and Qatar: “I am eager to race on new tracks like Losail and Gedda – commented number 10 – but I think there are transfers rather brutal, especially those that will occur from Brazil to Qatar. It will be really hard to face it, among other things after twenty races on the shoulders, with the time zone and with the differences between two continents. But I’m ready, even physically “.
